Partners After-School Program

The Partners After-School Program located in Long Beach at East Elementary School provides academic and social enrichment activities for youth from kindergarten through fifth grade. The mission of Partners after-school is to foster a partnership among family, school and community to provide quality after-school care. Partners is dedicated to providing a safe and supervised after-school education, enrichment and recreation program, which supports the overall well-being of children.

Children participate in age-appropriate activities under the supervision of qualified staff. The program provides daily snack, homework assistance, and a unique curriculum that balances free choice with structured enrichment activities. The enrichment component includes recreational outdoor/indoor play, visual and expressive arts, dance, computers, board games and imaginative play. In addition, educational support and prevention activities include peer mediation and small group activities, community service learning and nutrition awareness activities.

DESCRIPTION: Elementary Students from Bilingual and Dual Language programs are assisted with their daily homework assignments for one and a half hour three times a week in a group setting. Transportation is provided directly from the Long Beach Elementary Schools to the Program site.

CULTURAL SATURDAYS

DESCRIPTION: Children are broken up into age groups and enjoy 1 hour of history discussing the various Hispanic countries in their native language; 1 hour of arts and crafts; 1 hour of Hispanic folkloric dance. This program is for Hispanic and non - Hispanic students interested in learning about Hispanic culture
TAE-KWON-DO
For Ages 6 to 12

DESCRIPTION: Two sessions are offered- the first session is reserved for those students who want to register for cultural Saturday programs as well. The Tae-Kwon-Do classes teach children discipline, concentration, and personal self-defense. First-time students are required to purchase a uniform directly from the karate school.
MODERN DANCE
For Ages 10 to 17

DESCRIPTION: Youth meet at 6:30PM at 26 West Park Ave and are transported to the Middle School Gym. Youth are broken up into teams and are supervised by a coach
SPANISH GUITAR
For Ages 9 to adult

DESCRIPTION: Two sessions are provided: the first session is for beginners who have never taken Spanish guitar. The second session is for those who have basic knowledge and are interested in developing their skills. A guitar will be provided for class use; however students need to purchase their own in order to practice independently at home.
YOUTH COMMITTEE

DESCRIPTION: The Youth will meet to discuss social issues in the community. They will also have the opportunity to participate in Career and Work Development Workshops.
